Kadro ADE 2.0.0: Canvas Mode, Workspace Restore, and Usage Insights

6 min read

Kadro ADE 2.0.0 is here. This release adds Canvas mode for spatial agent work, restores your workspace after you close the app, brings local usage insights across providers, and cleans up how you switch modes and pick agents. These are the 2.0.0 release notes — here’s everything in the build, grouped so you can skim.

Kadro ADE is the agentic development environment for the desktop, and 2.0.0 is a big step in how you arrange and keep track of your agents. Let’s get into it.

Canvas mode: spatial agent work

The headline of 2.0.0 is Canvas mode. Instead of a fixed grid, a workspace becomes an infinite surface you can move around freely.

  • Live panes on an infinite surface. Pan, zoom, drag, and resize live agent panes wherever you want them.
  • Context nodes. Place context alongside your agents on the same canvas so the work and its references sit together.
  • A Canvas browser node. Park a live browser right next to the agents building for it, without leaving the canvas.

A cleaner way to switch and launch

Tools menu and mode switcher

The Tools menu now groups Browser, Files, and Skills together, and the Classic and Canvas mode switcher got a polish so moving between the two layouts is quick and obvious.

A configurable default agent

You can now set a default agent for new workspaces, so a fresh workspace opens ready to go. 2.0.0 also adds a stronger fallback when a provider is unavailable, so a hiccup with one provider doesn’t leave you stuck.

Keep your work between sessions

Workspace restore after app close

Close the app and pick up where you left off. 2.0.0 captures your session, gives you resume choices when you reopen, and cleans up empty or forgotten workspaces more safely so clutter doesn’t build up.

Finish notifications

When a background agent completes its work, the workspace now lets you know — so you can step away from a long-running task and come back when it’s actually done.

See where your agents spend

2.0.0 adds local usage insights for agent activity across providers, with charts, coverage controls, importer diagnostics, and a safer refresh. On top of that, the per-provider usage displays are hardened in this release, so the numbers you read are more reliable as you scale up to more agents.

Stability and polish

  • Stabler terminal resizing. Scroll position now stays put while panes change size, so resizing a busy pane no longer jumps you away from what you were reading.
  • More reliable background handoff. Background handoff reliability is hardened for Codex and Claude, so handing work off in the background behaves more predictably.
  • Better browser controls. The built-in browser gets search, suggestions, persistent history, profile controls, and clearer errors.
  • Improved local dictation setup. Stronger model verification, with embedded local transcription staying the default.

Get 2.0.0

The update ships through the app’s built-in auto-updater, or you can grab the latest build from the changelog. New to Kadro ADE? The docs walk you through setup, and Canvas mode is the first thing worth trying once you’re in.

Frequently asked questions

What is the headline feature in Kadro ADE 2.0.0?

Canvas mode. It turns a workspace into an infinite spatial surface where you can pan, zoom, drag, and resize live agent panes and context nodes — including a Canvas browser node parked right next to the agents. It's the biggest change in the 2.0.0 release.

Does Kadro ADE 2.0.0 restore my workspace after I close the app?

Yes. 2.0.0 adds workspace restore: the app captures your session, gives you resume choices when you reopen it, and cleans up empty or forgotten workspaces more safely so you don't accumulate clutter.

Can I see how much each agent provider is using?

Yes. 2.0.0 adds local usage insights for agent activity across providers — charts, coverage controls, importer diagnostics, and a safer refresh — alongside the hardened per-provider usage displays already in the app.

2.0.0 is about giving your agents more room to work and keeping that work easy to follow. See what Kadro ADE can do, or read how to run multiple AI coding agents in parallel to put Canvas mode to use.
